Greencastle, Ind., Nov. 8-- MRS. J. F. DARNALL is dead of pneumonia at her home in this city, her death occuring while the funeral of her daughter, Mrs. A.N. GRANT of Indianapolis was in progress here. Mrs. GRANT came to Greencastle to care for her mother and was stricken soon after her arrival. Within a week Mr. GRANT lost his mother at Logansport, his wife and his mother-in-law. Mrs. DARNALL was the widow of J.F. DARNALL, who was in the consular service in Mexico five years, having been appointed by President McKinley. She is survived by two sons, J. T. DARNALL of Oklahoma, Okla; and H.C. DARNALL of Plainfield, Ind.

Greencastle Nov 8 – Mrs. Susan Nelson Darnall, age 83, died Sunday afternoon at her home here. She had been ill three weeks. Mrs. Darnall’s death was the second in the family within a week, her daughter, Mrs. AN Grant of Indianapolis having died after she came here to assist in caring for her mother. Mrs. Darnall was the widow of James F. Darnall, consul to Mexico under President McKinley and president of the Greencastle and Muncie Nail Mills for a number of years. He died in 1906. Mrs. Darnall is survived by two sons, HC Darnall of Plainfield and James T. Darnall of Oklahoma City, Okla. Mrs. Darnall was a lifelong member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and an estimable resident of Greencastle. - kbz

Mrs. Susan Nelson Darnall, 83 years old, widow of the late James Franklin Darnall, died at her home on east Seminary street Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, following an illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Darnall had been in ill health for more than a year. A sad coincidence in connection with the death of Mrs. Darnall, was the death of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Grant of Indianapolis, who was taken suddenly ill when she came here to assist in caring for her mother. The funeral of Mrs. Grant was held Sunday afternoon at the Darnall residence. Just two hours later occurred the death of her mother.
The funeral of Mrs. Darnall will be at 2 o’clock conducted by the Rev. Henry Ostrum, assisted by Dr. Tillotson and Dr. Salem B. Town. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Darnall had resided in the home in which she died since Oct 10, 1865. She was the 7th child of a family of 14 children and was the 7th child of the 14 children to be claimed by death. Mrs. Darnall was the first of the children to be born in Putnam County, her birth occurring shortly after her parents had removed to this county from Kentucky. She was born in the old Nelson homestead near Morton. Mrs. Darnall was a member of the College Avenue Church. James Franklin Darnall, the husband, whose death occurred July 29, 1906 was one of the county’s most prominent citizens. During the administration of President McKinley, Mr. Darnall was appointed counsel to Mexico in which position he made a splendid record. Beside her two sons, James T. Darnall of Oklahoma and HC Darnall of this city, she leaves 7 brothers and sisters. They are JHC Nelson and Mrs. George Hanna, both of this city; Mrs. Jane Miller of Indianapolis; Mrs. Henry Miller, of Lawrence, Kas; Mrs. William Dale of Boone, Iowa; Newton Nelson of Chrisman, Ill and Pope Nelson of Los Angeles. – kbz
